Studies on the Nerve Fiber Constitution of the Peripheral Nerves of the Amyda japonica.

Abstract
The nerve fiber constitution of the peripheral nerves of the Amyda japonica were studied by Nakanishi¢¥s osmic acid staining method.
The small myelinated fibers (2.5-4¥ì)were definitely distinguished from the large somatic fibers(10-18¥ì) in the sciatic and median nerves in the teased nerve specimen. The small myelinated fibers (2.5-4¥ì) were light coloured and their myelin sheaths appeared thin and wave-like, whereas somatic nerve fibers(8-18¥ì) were much larger in diameter and covered with thick and regular myelin sheaths.
The small number of large myelinated fibers (8-10¥ì) existed among the small sutonomic fibers(2.5-4¥ì) in the cervival vagus and sympathetic nerves.
The small myelinated fibers in the somtic nerves (sciatic and median nerve) were regarded to be sympathetic fibers distributed to the skeletal muscles and the large myelinated fibers in the autonomic nerves (cervical vagus and sympathetic nerves) to be somatic nerve fivers.
